Sure there may be football to watch and a quick nap may be in order, but what about a fun family game after Thanksgiving meal?
Following are a few of our favorite fun family games for Thanksgiving Day:
1.) Gratitude Alphabet Game
This is a great game for the whole family, and one that really leans into the spirit of the Thanksgiving Day.
Rather than simply stating and sharing things that we are grateful for, give some structure to your gratitude.
Start with the youngest family member and have them say something they are grateful for that starts with the letter “A”.
Next have the person to their right say something they are grateful for that starts with the letter “B”.
Continue this process going around the table as many times as you need to get through the alphabet. This activity adds a little bit of fun to sharing the things we are thankful for on Thanksgiving Day.
2.) Charades
This fun family game is an old classic!
What better way to enjoy the holidays then by making your family members act like fools? They spend most of the year doing it anyways, why not make a game out of it?
While you can do this on your own by writing various words onto slips of paper, this box set has everything you need to get the family acting wild:
3.) Candy Corn Guessing Game
If you’re family isn’t one to sit down and participate in a game together, try doing this fun contest where people can participate at their whim.
Find a clear glass container and fill it with a small seasonal item like candy-corn.
Put small pieces of paper and a box near the glass jar of candy.
Have everyone in the family try and guess how many pieces are in the jar. Whoever is closest to the actual count wins! Get a fun prize for the winner like a gift card or candy to keep things interesting.
4.) Gratitude Jenga
Gratitude Jenga is a play on the standard Jenga game with a small twist.
Each time someone pulls out a piece, they have to say something that they are grateful for, defined by the category corresponding to the color of the piece they pulled out.
Play until the tower falls. Loser has to do the dishes!
Follow this chart for some great gratitude questions, or simply create your own questions!
5.) Never Have I Ever (Family Edition)
“Never Have I Ever” is a family friendly game that lets you re-live some stories and share them with others.
This exciting family game is designed for ages 8 and up and is fun for the whole family.
This game includes question cards in which players state whether or not they have done the activity that is stated on the card.
In addition, the player will share their story about whatever the topic may be. Making this a great game to learn more about your family.
6.) Left, Center, Right Dice Game(LCR)
Left, Center, Right on paper, sounds pretty boring. Like anything else, get a little money involved and your family will be on the edge of their seats!
LCR is a fairly simple dice game in-which the player with the dice rolls and does the action that the dice displays. One fun way to play is to have each player start with 4 quarters instead of playing chips.
- If the dice says “L” the player must give the person to their left, one quarter.
- If it says “C” the player must put a quarter in the center pot.
- Lastly, if the player rolls an “R” they must give a quarter to the player on their right.
After the players turn, they pass the playing dice to the right. That’s it.
Slowly more and more money will accumulate in the center pot, and players will run out of quarters.
In conclusion, the last person with a quarter wins the entire center pot.
